ROSEBURG SCHOOLS ANNOUNCE CHANGE TO MEAL DISTRIBUTION

September 2, 2020 3:45 a.m.

Roseburg Public Schools have a change in their meal distribution.

An RPS release said the Oregon Department of Education and the USDA have released updated guidance that now allows the district to distribute free meals to all children, ages 1 to 18.

The release said previous requirements meant that the district could only serve students enrolled in the school district and ID cards were sent out to families to use to access the meals. With the nationwide extension of the Summer Food Service Program and Seamless Summer Option, any child can receive a meal via district bus routes or at distribution sites. The current extension runs through December 31st.

Parents and caregivers can also pick up the free meals for their children. District students are encouraged to save their ID’s for potential future use.

RPS began meal distribution on Monday. “Grab-and-go” bagged breakfasts are being served weekdays from 7:30 a.m. to 8:00 a.m. followed by lunches from 11:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Meals are available at Hucrest, Fir Grove, Fullerton, Eastwood, Winchester, Sunnyslope and Green elementary schools.

A combination of both the breakfast and lunch meals are being delivered at bus stop locations around the district on weekdays, as well as at Roseburg High, Fremont Middle School and Melrose Elementary. Check the district website: https://www.roseburg.k12.or.us/ for bus route schedules.
