A 34-year old man was jailed for two counts of unlawful use of a weapon and other charges, after an incident early Wednesday.

A report from the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office said at about 12:10 a.m. a victim reported that there were four unknown individuals who had forced he and woman out of their house in the 500 block of South Pine Street in Canyonville. The victim claimed one of the individuals had a knife and was waving it around, threatening to use it.

The report said units arrived on scene and noticed Robert Vanheck taking things out of the house and walking down the street. The man saw the deputies and took off running. Two deputies chased the man, who gave up after being told he was going to be tased.

Additional deputies arrived and initially detained a second man. The victims said the first man did all the intimidation and was waving his knife around at both of them. The male victim said Vanheck had swung the knife at him, giving the victim a small cut on his left forearm.

The report said Vanheck admitted to waving the knife at both victims, but said he never hit anyone with it. Additional charges included 4th degree assault, 2nd degree theft, and two counts of menacing.  After arraignment, bail was set at $15,000.

The second suspect was not charged. The female victim had an active warrant for her arrest. She was cited and released.
