Two men were arrested after a high-speed chase that started in coastal Douglas County on Friday night.
A report from the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office said just after 10:30 p.m. deputies were headed north on Highway 101, about nine miles south of Reedsport. The report said they were trying to locate a vehicle which suspects had left from a burglary in. A vehicle fitting the description was seen heading south so a deputy was able to turn around and initiate a pursuit.
The report said the suspect vehicle sped up, with speeds of over 100 miles per hour. The deputy was able to catch up to the vehicle just south of the McCullough Bridge. North Bend Police successfully spike stripped the vehicle, but it continued south into North Bend. The vehicle was spotted again and 42-year old John Adams was taken into custody.
The second suspect took off on foot but was eventually taken into custody with the help of a police K9. He was identified as 38-year old Bryan Hampton.
Hampton was charged with elude, reckless driving, reckless endangering and for a federal parole violation warrant the was out for his arrest. He was detained without bail.
Adams was charged with first degree burglary, conspiracy to commit a class A felony, possession of burglar tools and other counts. After arraignment, bail was set at $25,000.
