A second Douglas County resident has died from the COVID-19 virus.

That confirmation came from County Public Health Officer Dr. Bob Dannenhoffer in a release from the Douglas County COVID-19 Response Team on Wednesday night.

The victim has been identified as an 80-year old man who passed away at Peacehealth Sacred Heart Medical Center at Riverbend in Springfield, on Wednesday. The release said the man had tested positive last Friday and went into the hospital on Sunday. In the interest of privacy, no further information regarding the man will be released.

County Commissioner Tim Freeman said, “It is with a heavy heart that we are reporting the passing of another beloved resident of our County from the coronavirus”. Freeman referred to the victim’s family and said “On behalf of my family, my fellow Commissioners, and the entire DCCRT team, we send them our sincerest sympathies”.
