The Oregon State University Extension Service of Douglas County Positive Youth Development program will offer a four-week series of science workshops to youth age 9-19 throughout the month of September.
A release said the classes will focus on different science topics. Youth will learn science terminology and concepts and discuss hands-on experiments.
Information will be shared regarding endothermic and exothermic reactions, Newton’s 2nd and 3rd laws of physics and Newton’s Law of Conservation. Hands-on experiments will include the making of elephant toothpaste, building a catapult, using eggs to demonstrate the importance of wearing a helmet, and making a Newton’s candle. Each class has limited enrollment. Youth don’t need to be a currently enrolled 4-H member to participate.
Each class will be held at two different times – from 1:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. and from 3:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. All classes will be in the OSU Extension Service Auditorium on Southeast Douglas in Roseburg. Pre-registration is required. Each class costs $10 per person.
