EXCESSIVE HEAT WATCH FOR THIS WEEKEND

August 12, 2020 9:45 a.m.

An Excessive Heat Watch is in effect for the upcoming weekend, for the Umpqua Valley and other nearby areas.

An update from the National Service said dangerously hot conditions are possible. High temperatures are forecast to be around 100 degrees in the Umpqua Valley, and around 105 degrees in the Rogue, Applegate and Illinois valleys. Overnight lows are forecast to be near 70 degrees.

Forecasters said extreme heat will significantly increase the potential for heat related illnesses. That will particularly apply for those working or participating in outdoor activities. Warm overnight lows will provide little relief in structures without air conditioning.

The update said residents should be prepared to drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun and check up on relatives and neighbors.

The Excessive Heat Watch will be in place from Saturday morning through Sunday evening.
