August 11, 2020 9:30 a.m.

The Roseburg City Council has scheduled two Work Study Sessions to take public input regarding homelessness issues.

At Monday’s meeting, councilors decided to take input during a Zoom meeting on Monday August 17th and to accept public comments during an in-person meeting on August 31st. Both of those meetings will begin at 6:00 p.m.

Information from staff said for the first meeting, residents will be able to mail in comments and a Zoom link will be provided for those who wish to speak. For the second meeting, comments will be taken via email again. Staff will also have the council chambers open for those who wish to present comments in person. COVID-19 restrictions limit the number of people who can be in the chambers for the meeting. More information will be provided later as COVID-19 restrictions could potentially change.

Councilors also approved the purchase of a new breathing air compressor for the Roseburg Fire Department. It will be purchased from Cascade Fire Department and will cost not more than $53,000.

The council acknowledged the acceptance of the CARES Act Relief Fund and the execution of the grant to supply those funds.  Councilors also directed staff to begin the process of preparing draft municipal code language related to temporary shelters and other temporary housing for consideration by the council.

The council meeting lasted for just under one hour.
