The Cow Creek Fire burned approximately two acres on Friday afternoon.

Kyle Reed of the Douglas Forest Protective Association said crews from DFPA and other agencies responded to the fire located nine miles southwest of Riddle, in the Cow Creek Canyon.

Crews arrived on the scene, near Pecks Field, at around 2:00 p.m. Reed said the first engine reported a one-acre fire that was spreading up a steep hillside at a moderate rate of speed. Two helicopters were used to slow the forward spread of the fire while a bull dozer and numerous ground resources worked to construct control lines and install hose lays around the fire.

Reed said at approximately 2:20 p.m. the incident commander reported that the forward spread of the fire had been stopped and that crews would remain on the scene for the remainder of the day, working to fully contain the fire.

Reed said the Cow Creek Fire was located within the fire scar of the 2017 Horse Prairie Fire. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
