WINSTON RESIDENTS TO VOTE ON ALLOWING MARIJUANA DISPENSARIES

August 6, 2020 3:45 a.m.

Residents in the City of Winston will get to vote on the question of whether to allow marijuana dispensaries in their community, following action by the Winston City Council on Monday night.

An update from staff said a measure will now be on the ballot in the November 3rd general election. The update said while marijuana is legal, Winston’s zoning laws have strict guidelines which currently make it impossible to have a dispensary inside the city limits.

The proposal will also ask if voters want to approve a 3 percent sales tax on marijuana and marijuana infused products, if it becomes legal to have a dispensary in Winston.

It will be structured as two separate ballot measures.

The update said putting both measures on the ballot was approved unanimously by the council.
