ONE FIRE OUT ON THE UMPQUA NATIONAL FOREST

August  6, 2020

One fire is out on the Umpqua National Forest but crews are looking for another.

Mark Turney of the Forest Service said the Wit’s End Fire was declared controlled on Wednesday afternoon. He said the crew hiked out at the end of their shift. Turney said two modules of Crew-3 are hiking into the location of that fire on Thursday to continue to monitor the fire and begin the process of equipment recovery.

On Wednesday a smoke report was called in by East Division Wildland Fire Fighters, in the Diamond Lake area. Turney said crews were unable to locate the smoke as of Wednesday night.

The Northwest Fire Potential Summary said a cold front moving through the region is bringing light rain on the west side of the Cascades. The threat of lightning is mostly moving out of the area. A gradual warming trend is expected to begin on Friday and continue through the middle of next week. Thunderstorm activity is expected to be suppressed.

Fire danger remains high with Public Use Restriction 1 remaining in effect.
