NO NEW SMOKE REPORTS ON UMPQUA NATIONAL FOREST

There are no new smoke reports, but unattended camp fires are an issue on the Umpqua National Forest.

Mark Turney of the Forest Service said one wildland firefighter crew remained in the wilderness Saturday night, conducting heat and smoke checks on the Hound Dog Fire.

Deputy Fire Staff Officer Terri Brown said the plan had been for them to hike out on Saturday. However, the incident commander wanted to remain one more night to make sure the fire is out, due to how remote it is.

After monitoring the incident throughout early Sunday, no more residual heat was detected and the crew began their hike out of the wilderness.

Staff continues to conduct additional detection flights seeking any new fire starts.

The Northwest Fire Potential Summary said a cooling trend will persist this week, moderating the burn conditions.

Firefighters continue to respond to multiple unattended campfires. Those in the forest should make sure to completely extinguish their campfire before going to bed or leaving their campsite. Fires should be drowned completely and they should be cool to the touch.
