Roseburg Police jailed a man after a reported assault on Monday night.

Information from RPD said at about 9:30 p.m. officers responded to a reported bike crash under the Washington Street Bridge, involving two people. A 36-year old woman suffered a large gash to her head and was taken to Mercy Medical Center for treatment.

The report said after further investigation, it was found that a 45-year old man was trying to take the woman’s bike from her, during which she was pushed to the ground, striking her head on a rock.

The man was charged with fourth-degree assault and detained on $6,250 bail.
