Crews from Douglas County Fire District No. 2 and the Winston-Dillard Fire Department responded to a pile of railroad ties that were on fire early Friday morning.
Battalion Chief Mark Hernandez said the fire was reported around 4:20 a.m. and was behind United Parcel Service in the 4400 block of Old Highway 99 South in Green. Hernandez said the fire was a 40-foot by 20-foot pile of the ties. Crews were on the scene for about two hours extinguishing the blaze. He said the railroad company brought in equipment to spread the ties to help get the fire out.
