WATERWAY ACCESS PERMIT ENFORCEMENT BEGINS AUGUST 1ST

July 21, 2020 3:10 a.m.

Paddlers of non-motorized boats will need to carry a Waterway Access Permit beginning August 1st.

Information from the Oregon State Marine Board said the permit is required for all non-motorized boats 10 feet and longer a replaces the Aquatic Invasive Species Prevention Permit.

The release said the permit funds two programs. One is the AIS Prevention Program, which is co-managed by the Marine Board and the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife. The rest of the revenue is directed to a dedicated account for the development and improvement on non-motorized access and other services for non-motorized boaters. The release said the Marine Board’s Boating Facility Program administers the competitive grant program and recently accepted the first grant applications. These programs will develop new boating access and improves facilities by adding vehicle parking spaces, non-motorized boat launches, restrooms, low-freeboard docks and more, and will continue to fund ODFW-managed boat inspection stations for aquatic Invasive species.

Permits are not required on federally designated wild and scenic rivers where other permits are already required, or for youth ages 13 and younger. Permits are transferrable to other paddlecraft.

Permits are available for one week, one calendar year or two calendar years. They can be purchased through the ODFW Electronic Licensing System: https://odfw.huntfishoregon.com/login, or the Boat Oregon Store: https://apps3.oregon.gov/
