Firefighters assigned to the Days Creek Road Fire made good progress on the fire overnight.

Kyle Reed of the Douglas Forest Protective Association said crews were able to complete fire line and install hose lays around the perimeter of the fire. Reed said there is about 800 feet of indirect fire line on the northern side of the fire. That means there is still unburned fuel between the fire’s edge and the control line. Reed said constructing direct containment line against the edge of the fire in that area will be one of the main priorities for resources assigned to the incident.

115 people are assigned to the fire, approximately 14 miles northeast of Canyonville. Crews will be working to hold and improve fire lines in addition to mopping up hot spots. Reed said two helicopters are still assigned to the incident and will be used throughout Tuesday as needed.

Reed said the Days Creek Road Fire is still estimated to be 35 acres in size. More accurate mapping of the fire will be completed in the coming days, as time allows.
