Crews from the Douglas Forest Protective Association are dealing with the Days Creek Road Fire, located approximately 14 miles northeast of Canyonville.

Kyle Reed from DFPA said the fire was reported shortly after 11:00 a.m. Monday. The first engine to arrive reported the fire to be around three acres in size, burning in logging slash. Reed said an aggressive initial attack by aviation and ground resources is keeping the fire at 35 acres as of Monday night.

Construction of fire line and the installation of hose lays have been completed around 80 percent of the fire. 85 firefighters have been assigned to the fire. Four Type 2 helicopters and one Type 1 helicopter have been engaged in addition to two large air tankers and two single engine air tankers.

Reed said in addition to DFPA resources, equipment and personnel from industrial landowners and contractors, the Oregon Department of Forestry, Coos Forest Protective Association, Bureau of Land Management, and the Umpqua National Forest are assisting with suppression efforts.
