A log truck crash claimed the life of a Lakeside man on Thursday morning.

Sergeant Brad O’Dell of the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office said about 9:30 a.m. dispatchers received a report that a log truck had crashed approximately a half mile up Loon Lake Road off of Highway 38.

O’Dell said when deputies arrived on the scene, they found a Freightliner truck over an embankment and mostly submerged in Mill Creek. The driver, identified as 54-year old Rhett Curran was declared deceased at the scene. The log truck was recovered by a tow company.

O’Dell said an investigation indicated speed was a contributing factor in the crash.

A number of agencies assisted DCSO at the accident scene.
