On Thursday, Congressman Peter DeFazio announced that he has secured a grant of more than $2 million for improvements to the Illinois Valley Airport in Cave Junction.

DeFazio said “this much-needed investment in the Illinois Valley Airport will keep passengers and airport workers safe, while maintaining a critical economic engine in the area”. DeFazio said it is imperative that the airport and supporting facilities are in good working order to maintain access to air service for southwest Oregon.

The release said the funds, from the Federal Aviation Administration, will go towards the reconstruction of the airport’s taxiway, as well as rehabilitation of the airport’s apron and runway. The airport serves approximately 6,000 aircraft operations per year.

Airport Director Larry Graves said the grant will restore the airport’s runway which he said, “is of vital importance to the residents of the area and to all of Josephine County”.

DeFazio is the Chair of the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure.
