A man is hospitalized after a vehicle hit a semi-truck which then left Interstate Five.
A report from Oregon State Police said on Monday at about 9:55 a.m. a 53-year old Oakland man was driving northbound on the freeway about a mile north of the Winchester exit when he apparently fell asleep. His vehicle hit the truck, which was in the other lane. The semi veered off the freeway, flipped over and collided with a tree.
The report said the semi driver, 39-year old Roberto Torres-Negron, was pinned inside the cab for approximately 45 minutes before fire personnel were able to extricate him. The man was taken to Mercy Medical Center, before being transferred to Sacred Heart Medical Center at Riverbend in Springfield where he is listed in serious condition, according to a hospital spokesperson.
The driver that caused the wreck was cited for careless driving.
