A logging accident claimed the life of a Drain man on Monday.

A report from the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office said at about 1:20 p.m. Kevin Black Logging was working an active site on D.R. Johnson Lumber property for Douglas County Forest Products, in the 1800 block of Kent Creek Road near Winston. 54-year old Steven Juergens maneuvered his shovel down an old skid road just below the landing. Employees on the scene said the shovel tipped over and rolled but stopped just a short distance down the hill with the boom keeping it from rolling any further.

The report said employees tried to assist Juergens who was still in the cab of the shovel. At some point the boom was manipulated and caused the shovel to roll approximately 600 feet down the logged unit. The victim suffered fatal injuries,
