Volunteers with the Douglas County St. Vincent de Paul Society are receiving another shipment of food baskets to help those in need.
Mike Reese, President of Roseburg St. Vincent de Paul said the group will be distributing the food from the parking lot of The Mattress Company on Northeast Stephens next to Costco, starting Tuesday at 7:15 a.m. Reese said the boxes will be available until all are gone. They will have perishable food and weigh approximately 20 pounds. Those who need food can go to that location and simply open their trunk, and a volunteer will place the food box inside the vehicle.
Sutherlin and Myrtle Creek St. Vincent de Paul will have food boxes as well.
The boxes are part of a grant that the Catholic Church in western Oregon received to help the less fortunate.
Reese said the goal of St. Vincent de Paul is to serve the poor and disadvantaged by providing emergency assistance for utilities, household and personal items and by giving comfort and spiritual guidance.
The organization has an office at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Roseburg which is open on Mondays and Wednesdays. Call 580-0680 for assistance or more information.
