A Vancouver, Washington man is missing after taking his kayak into Diamond Lake on Tuesday night.
Sergeant Brad O’Dell of the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office said at approximately 10:20 p.m. 911 dispatchers received reports of a man yelling for help from the water at the lake. Reports said no one was able to see the man, but it sounded as if he was in distress.

O’Dell said shortly after the initial reports, dispatchers received a report that there was a missing person at the lake.
Deputies learned that 37-year old Jared Boria was camping at Diamond Lake Campground. Shortly before the 911 calls, the man had put his kayak in the water and paddled into the lake. He was not wearing a life jacket at the time.
O’Dell said deputies spoke to several witnesses who reported hearing a male in distress yelling from the water, but were unable to see anyone.
An initial search was conducted by deputies, along with staff from Douglas County Fire District No. 2 and Diamond Lake first responders. However, they were unable to locate the man or the kayak.
On Wednesday, deputies, Sheriff’s Office divers, search and rescue from personnel from multiple agencies, and Oregon State Police Fish and Game troopers, conducted an exhaustive search of the lake. Boria’s kayak, paddle and his shoes were located during the search, however the man is still missing.

Boria is described as a Hispanic male, approximately six feet tall, 160 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes.
Search efforts continue. O’Dell said anyone recreating in the area is asked to be aware of the missing person report and call 911 with any information which may help the search effort.
