A 4-year old boy was taken to Oregon Health and Science University after being hit by a vehicle on Wednesday evening.

A report from Roseburg Police said at 5:30 p.m. a 26-year old woman was driving northbound on Cummins, just off of Diamond Lake Boulevard. The child was riding his scooter down his driveway and was hidden from view by shrubs and bushes, so the driver didn’t see him. The report said the child rode out into the road and was struck by the front passenger tire of the vehicle.

The report said his leg was pinned between the tire and his scooter, as his leg was run over. The driver’s speed was estimated to be 15 miles per hour, based on interviews and witness statements.

The boy had extensive injuries to his leg according to the report. A neighbor had to apply a tourniquet to stop the blood loss. He was taken to Mercy Medical Center before being flown to Portland.
