A section of Highway 101 in coastal Douglas County has been closed since late Wednesday morning due to a fatal accident.

Information from the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office said at about 10:45 a.m. a deputy attempted a traffic stop of a vehicle south of Reedsport. The vehicle fled and eventually crashed several miles south of Reedsport. The operator of that vehicle is deceased.

The report said what appeared to be explosive devices were located at the scene. An Oregon State Police Explosives Unit is on the scene and the crash is under investigation.

Highway 101 is expected to be closed until early Wednesday evening. No detour route is available.
