A Cottage Grove man jailed for unauthorized use of a motor vehicle by Sutherlin Police on Monday.

Captain Kurt Sorenson told News Radio 1240 KQEN that at about 2:00 p.m. an officer saw a sedan taken from the parking lot of the Sutherlin Liquor Store on West Central. Sorenson said the owner was inside the business and had left the car unlocked with the keys inside.

Later in the day the officer saw the suspects at a different location. 44-year old Melvin Sumter was ultimately arrested for the crime. He was detained on $50,000 bail.

The vehicle was later recovered on the side of the road, in the 2800 block of Oak Hill Road.
