Staff with the Umpqua National Forest has announced that the Diamond Lake South Campground is now open to recreational users.

Mark Turney of the Forest Service said the Diamond Lake North Campground opened last week.

Turney said all Diamond Lake campgrounds are available by advance reservation only through www.recreation.gov. No payments will be accepted at the campground. Reservations must be made two days in advance of the date of the intended visit.

Turney said forest personnel are working to reopen other campgrounds in the coming weeks.

The Umpqua National Forest will continue the closure of other developed recreation sites, such as the Umpqua Hot Springs and its access trail, along with South Umpqua Falls, group campsites and all cabins, rentals and fire lookouts.
