A Winston man was stabbed and detectives with the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office are investigating the incident which took place Friday night in Green.
Sergeant Brad O’Dell said the stabbing was reported at a business in the 4600 block of Carnes Road at around 7:20 p.m. O’Dell said when law enforcement arrived on the scene, they found 40-year old Joseph Sanchez suffering from a stab wound to the lower abdomen. He was transported by ambulance to Mercy Medical Center and was later transferred to another hospital. He is currently in stable condition.
O’Dell said deputies learned that the victim was stabbed by 57-year old Harry Thomas of Roseburg following a disturbance that turned physical. The disturbance centered around COVID-19 and politics, according to the DCSO report.
No arrests have been made at this time and deputies are seeking witnesses of the disturbance. Anyone with information or who recorded the event is asked to call DCSO at 440-4458. O’Dell told News Radio 1240 KQEN that Thomas is cooperating with law enforcement.
DCSO was assisted by the Oregon State Police and the Winston Police Department.
