SPECIAL SUTHERLIN COUNCIL MEETING THURSDAY

June 11, 2020 3:35 a.m.
The Sutherlin City Council will consider creating an Urban Renewal district, during a special meeting on Thursday afternoon.
City Manager Jerry Gilham told News Radio 1240 KQEN that staff and the council have been considering the idea for a while. He said that after numerous meetings with a downtown development group and a council-approved task force, those involved have come up with a number of possible projects that would help stimulate the economy and improve the overall livability of the area.
Gilham said in order to take advantage of the Tax Increment Financing for the next fiscal year, a second reading of an ordinance on the proposal must be completed by July 1st. Gilham said first reading and approval of the ordinance took place at the regular council meeting on Monday night.
He said second reading of a plan map amendment for a proposed new subdivision will take place at the special meeting as well.
The meeting will be held in Civic Auditorium. A limited number of staff and city officials will be present at the meeting. Residents and others interested in the meeting, are encouraged to watch it on a Zoom format. To get the Zoom link call City Recorder Diane Harris at 459-2856, extension 207.
The meeting will begin at 4:00 p.m.
