Following guidance from federal, state and local public health authorities, staff at Crater Lake National Park is increasing recreational access and services.
Marsha McCabe from the National Park Service, said they are closely monitoring the COVID-19 pandemic and using a phased approach to increase access:
*Munson Valley Road, West Rim Drive and the North Entrance Road are open, weather permitting. East Rim Drive and Pinnacles Road continue to be closed as they usually are this time of year due to snow.
*Visitors are encouraged to go to: https://www.recreation.gov/sitepass/2647 to pay entrance fees in advance. When paying at the entrance station, credit cards are preferred.
*Most park trails are currently covered with snow and in some cases, downed trees.
*Crater Lake Backcountry Office is open for back for backcountry permits. Only one individual per group will be allowed in the office to complete the permit.
*Rim Valley Gift Shop and other concession facilities will open in phases. Go to www.travelcraterlake.com for the latest information.
*Rim Village Comfort Stations are open.
Park information centers and bookstores remain closed and boat tours are cancelled for the season.
Several feet of snow still cover much of the park so visitors should be aware of potential hazards.
Details and updates on park operations will continue to be posted at www.nps.gov/crla and on social media channels.
