ONE DEAD, ONE TO HOSPITAL AFTER SUTHERLIN SHOOTING

One person is dead, and one has been taken to the hospital following a shooting in Sutherlin on Saturday afternoon.
Sergeant Brad O’Dell of the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office said just after 1:40 p.m. dispatchers received a report that a shooting had taken place at the Relax Inn on West Central. O’Dell said Sutherlin Police arrived on the scene and located one male deceased in the parking lot and a female suffering from gunshot wounds.
She was taken to an undisclosed hospital for the treatment of her injuries. The deceased male has been identified as the subject who fired on the female before turning the gun on himself.
The Douglas County Major Crimes Team has been activated and is conducting an investigation into the incident. O’Dell said that team consists of detectives from the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, Oregon State Police and Roseburg Police Departments as well as investigators from the Douglas County District Attorney’s Office.
REACH Air Ambulance and Umpqua Valley Ambulance assisted law enforcement at the scene.
O’Dell said no further information is being released at this time.
