One person was hospitalized when a home burned in Yoncalla today, with the blaze spreading to a neighboring house as well.
Information from North Douglas County Fire and EMS said crews were dispatched at 8:45 a.m.to the 200 block of Cedar Street. Firefighters arrived to find a double-wide manufactured home fully involved. Crews on the scene requested mutual aid from Oakland Rural Fire District and other neighboring districts for coverage in their district.
The release said the heat and fire debris from the home was extensive, and as a result, the neighboring house, also a manufactured home, caught on fire before crews could put protective measures in place. Firefighters were able to knock down the fire on the second home and continued fire suppression on the first home for several hours.
A female escaped from the first house with burns from the fire. She was transported to Sacred Heart Medical Center at Riverbend in Springfield with non-life-threatening injuries.
The release said the initial house that caught on fire is a complete loss, along with the loss of several animals that did not escape the fire. The second house sustained severe damage and the value of the damage is being assessed. The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Oregon State Fire Marshal.
North Douglas County Fire and EMS was assisted by several other agencies.
