The Boys & Girls Club of the Umpqua Valley will provide weekday summer programs starting June 15th but is already full.
A release said the non-profit will only offer programs that can operate within the guidelines set by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention along with state and local regulations. They are not able to offer themed summer and sports camps or the typical drop-in programs that they have done in the past.
Programs will run from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and are for new and existing club members entering grades 1-12 in the fall. The enrollment cost is $50 per week. This is in addition to the $52 annual membership fee.
Stable groups of 10 youth will be established at the beginning of each week and that group will remain intact all day for the remainder of the week. Based on the size of the facility, and the number of staff, they will only be able to begin their programs with 4 or 5 groups.
The release said last summer the Boys & Girls Club averaged almost 200 youth per day, so it will a challenge to only be able to accommodate 40-50 in the beginning.
Staff is currently taking names on a waiting list. Parents or guardians can call 440-9505 to get on the list, or to ask questions. The Boys & Girls Club is at 1144 Northeast Cedar in Roseburg.
