Myrtle Creek’s Music in the Park summer concert series has been canceled for 2020.
Ted Romas, Secretary/Treasurer for the Myrtle Creek Chamber of Commerce said the move was made after considering all options.
Romas, who has also coordinated the concerts since 2007, said the decision by the board was based primarily on concerns about being able to comply with all the requirements of Oregon’s Phase 1 Reopening guidelines to ensure the safety of concert guests, scheduled performers and chamber volunteers. Romas said the board was also concerned abut being able to raise enough funds on short notice to pay performers and sound services without depleting the current budget and having no start-up funds for the 2021 concerts.
The first performance of Music in the Park was held in 1987, making it the longest running free concert series in Douglas County. This summer would have marked the 34th consecutive year of the popular community and family event. Romas said he expects the full seven-week concert series will resume in the summer of 2021.
