After being closed for almost two months to on premise wine tasting and consumption, tasting rooms around the Umpqua Valley are reopening.
A release from the Umpqua Valley Wine Growers Association said that’s due to Douglas County moving to Phase 1 Reopening status under plans announced by Governor Kate Brown.
The release said nearly 20 tasting room facilities are now open with others set to reopen soon. Like restaurants, there are guidelines that must be followed to allow for proper social distancing, lower occupancy and sanitation. The use of masks by those inside tasting rooms is encouraged. Customers should call the winery they plan to visit ahead of time to get more information about how it is operating and if a reservation is needed.
The release said Oregon wines enjoyed brisk sales according to Nielsen data from mid March to early April. It showed that Oregon wine retail sales were up 52 percent, outperforming the total table wine category which was up by 41 percent. The release said however local wineries are ready to get back to business and welcome customers into their tasting rooms.
