RESTRICTIONS CONTINUE IN ROSEBURG PARKS SYSTEM

May 15, 2020 10:30 a.m. (updated May 16, 6:45 a.m.)While a Phase 1 Reopening is underway in Douglas County, a number of restrictions continue on specific activities within City of Roseburg Parks.
Communications Specialist Eric Johnson said those are in place due to various orders issued by Governor Kate Brown.
Johnson said the Oregon Health Authority has issued a number of sector guidance documents that outline both requirements and recommendations for keeping residents healthy and safe as the reopening process slowly continues. Johnson said a sector guidance document has been issued for organizations that provide outdoor recreation opportunities, like the City of Roseburg. Johnson said the City is obligated to meet the required aspects of the document and carefully consider the recommended portions.
Johnson said based on the OHA guidance and considering additional guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and the Oregon Recreation and Parks Association, most of the specific activities that have been previously prohibited, will, unfortunately, remain prohibited under Phase 1 Reopening including:
*Indoor sports are prohibited
*Organized athletics and contact sports like basketball, baseball, softball, soccer, football and lacrosse are prohibited
*Playgrounds, the skate park, picnic shelters and outdoor sports courts remain closed
*Sunshine Park remains closed
*The half shell at Stewart Park will not be erected
*Sand volleyball remains closed
*Restrooms in Stewart Park will be reopened
Johnson said in light of the Phase 1 guidelines, residents are still encouraged to enjoy the parks. With the exception of Sunshine Park, the parks remain open. Those enjoying the parks and multi-use path for walking, dog walking, running and similar activities should be sure to maintain social distancing while in the parks.
Johnson said compliance with all the requirements and recommendations will be the key to advancing to Phase 2. For more information, contact City Parks Program Manager Kris Ammerman at 492-6894.
