The Roseburg Police Department is addressing a recent rash of criminal mischief to businesses, some of which has been targeted in the downtown area.
Sergeant Jeff Eichenbusch said last week there was an individual whole broke a large business sign in the 700 block of Southeast Jackson. He said that same person has caused damage to several other downtown buildings. Eichenbusch said the man was apprehended and charged with criminal mischief. Around the same time a female was charged for writing on several businesses with a marker, according to Eichenbusch. He said most of that damage was able to be cleaned as the marker was easily wiped off most surfaces.
The release said most recently several windows were broken at the Republican Party headquarters on Jackson, with graffiti disparaging President Donald Trump found written on the wall. The incident took place between Tuesday evening and Wednesday morning. Eichenbusch said a suspect in that case has not yet been identified.

Eichenbusch said in response to the recent increase in criminal mischief, RPD has increased and dedicated extra patrol coverage specifically to the downtown area. The department is also utilizing surveillance cameras in the area to help identify potential suspects or witnesses to these incidents. Eichenbusch said “while the COVID-19 pandemic has increasingly challenged our department and our normal operations, we continue to work tirelessly to investigate all crimes in our community and bring offenders to justice when we can”.
Anyone with information regarding the recent incidents is asked to contact Roseburg Police.
