The political action committee hoping to see the Roseburg Public Schools bond levy approved in the May Primary Election is having a show of support for the proposal on Thursday evening.
Vote Yes for Roseburg Schools PAC President Alex Palm told News Radio 1240 KQEN that starting at 5:00 p.m. a group of people will stand along Garden Valley Boulevard displaying signs and banners supporting the levy. He said those participating will be observing social distancing guidelines while the event takes place.
The $94 million bond levy would pay for a new building to replace the Heritage Building at Roseburg High School, would fund the construction of gymnasiums at five elementary schools, and would pay for safety and security improvements throughout the district. If the proposal passes, property owners would pay 63 cents per $1,000 of assessed value beginning in November of 2021.
Cameron Pope, President of the Roseburg Education Association, told KQEN his group is in full support of the proposal and moved its monthly meeting so that members could participate.
Ballots for the May Primary Election are due back by 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday May 19th.
