Covering coastal Douglas County:
An escaped debris-burn, caused a fire near Reedsport last weekend.
Jef Chase of the Coos Forest Protective Association said firefighters responded Sunday afternoon to an area three miles northeast of Reedsport in the Otter Creek area. Chase said crews from CFPA and Gardner Rural Fire Department were able to stop the fire at just under three-quarters of an acre.
Chase said conditions are drier than normal.
A CFPA release said residents should avoid debris burning as much as possible. Those who do burn should follow these guidelines:
*Be in attendance at all times while burning.
*Have water and tools immediately available.
*Don’t burn in windy conditions
*Have a safe clearing around burn piles.
