BROOKING'S MAN JAILED FOR CRIMINAL MISCHIEF

A Brookings man was jailed for criminal mischief on Friday.
A report from the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office said at about 7:30 p.m. it was reported that 36-year old Jason Beard was intoxicated and had destroyed the victim’s house in the 1800 block of Wild River Drive. The report said the man had been visiting for two days. A deputy found the inside of the house to be significantly damaged with a damage estimate of around $3,000.
Deputies found Beard in a nearby field. The man was asleep with alcohol containers around him. He was detained in handcuffs and a deputy started to escort the suspect to his patrol vehicle. The report said Beard tried to pull away several times and attempted to run. He was taken to the ground. As he was put into a patrol car, the suspect allegedly spit on a deputy.
Beard was charged with resisting arrest, first degree criminal mischief, third degree theft and for aggravated harassment. He was initially jail on $107,500 bail.
