A Canyonville man was cited after his vehicle went into the South Umpqua River on Sunday afternoon.
A report from the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office said at about 1:30 p.m. the 31-year old man was traveling in the 10,000 block of Tiller Trail Highway in the Days Creek area. The driver said he was speeding, went to shift gears and lost control of the car, ultimately going over an embankment and down about 20 feet into the water. The report said the car floated about 30 feet down the river before it hit bottom and the man was able to climb out and get up the riverbank.
The man was cited for careless driving with an accident and for failure to renew his registration. His vehicle was towed out of the river.
