MAN JAILED FOR ASSAULTING POLICE, STRANGULATION

A Roseburg man was jailed for assaulting a public safety officer and for strangling a woman on Friday afternoon.
A report from the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office said at about 12:45 p.m. deputies contacted a female victim on Garden Valley Road who alleged that 29-year Gabriel Miles had choked her and slapped her multiple times at her nearby residence after having an argument over how she spends her money. The report said the victim had a visible injury.
Deputies contacted Miles at the residence. After getting him to come to the back door, they attempted to take him into custody. The suspect reportedly refused and said he was not going to jail. While fighting with him, Miles allegedly punched a deputy twice and kicked him at least once. The man was tased once and after several minutes of fighting he was finally taken into custody.
The report said Miles was checked out at Mercy Medical Center before being taken to jail.
Additional charges included resisting arrest, harassment, and for interfering. He was initially detained on $112,500 bail. After arraignment, that amount was dropped to $15,000.
