A 45-year old man was jailed after a wreck in the Glendale area on Thursday night.
A report from the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office said at about 7:00 p.m. deputies responded to a report that a vehicle had rolled into a ditch in the 3000 block of Azalea Glen Road.
The report said that 45-year old Michael Matthews attempted to run away from medical personnel but surrendered when deputies arrived. The report said the man admitted that he was highly intoxicated and had crashed his vehicle. Matthews was cleared by medical and then refused field sobriety tests. He was taken into custody.
After being transported so a breath test could be given the man allegedly grew combative, punching a hole in a wall. He resisted when being placed back into handcuffs, according to the report. The suspect was then transported to jail.
The report said Matthews made numerous statements during the incident regarding his dislike for law enforcement and acting out physical acts of violence against them. He also reportedly made a comment about shooting the deputies at the jail.
Matthews was charged with interfering with a police officer, second degree criminal mischief, resisting arrest, for reckless driving and for driving under the influence. He was initially detained on $35,000 but was released from custody Friday morning.
