The Douglas County Public Works Department is planning lane and bridge closures on Melrose Road in April for pre-design work on the Conn-Ford Bridge, also known as the Melrose Bridge.
That bridge crosses the South Umpqua River just west of Kruse Farms approximately a half mile west of Garden Valley Road. An update from the Douglas County Public Works Department said the work will be done in two phases. The first phase will involve daytime lane closures, and the second phase will require a complete full nighttime bridge closure.
Phase one will go from April 6th through April 10th. One lane of the bridge will be closed from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Motorists can expect delays of less than 20 minutes. Flaggers will provide traffic control as needed. Emergency service vehicles will be given priority through the work zone.
Phase two will run from April 13th through April 19th. The bridge will be completely closed to through traffic from 8:00 p.m. to 6:00 am. Melrose Road will be closed to westbound traffic just past Kruse Farms. It will be closed to eastbound traffic just past Shady Drive. Warning signs and delineators will be installed to notify the public of the closure and detours. Eastbound motorists will use Old Melrose Road, taking it to West Harvard. Westbound traffic to the Melrose area will have to take Garden Valley to Stewart Parkway then turn right on West Harvard and follow that as it becomes Old Melrose Road, going back to Melrose Road.
Both phases of the project will affect the drive times for motorists. Drivers are asked to use caution when they are in the construction area.
