March 28, 2020 10:45 a.m.
One person died and one was arrested for DUII, when a vehicle rolled early Saturday on a BLM Road off of Melqua Road, between Melrose and the Callahan Mountains.
Sergeant Brad O’Dell of the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office said at about 12:10 a.m. dispatchers were notified of an injury roll-over crash on public lands managed by the Bureau of Land Management. O’Dell said the area is generally referred to as Long’s Ranch.
O’Dell said deputies learned that a sedan driven by 22-year old Andrew Clements of Roseburg, was traveling approximately 20 miles per hour on a gravel road when the vehicle left the roadway and rolled about 150 feet down an embankment. Clements and his passenger, 22-year old Savannah Nardli, also of Roseburg, were ejected from the sedan.
Emergency medical personnel attempted lifesaving efforts on Nardli, which were ultimately not successful. Clements suffered minor injuries and was taken to Mercy Medical Center for evaluation. He was later released from the hospital and taken into custody.
O’Dell said the crash remains under investigation. Anyone with information about the crash is asked to contact the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office at 440-4471.
