A Roseburg man died in a motorcycle versus vehicle accident on Highway 138E on Saturday afternoon.
Captain Tim Fox of Oregon State Police said shortly before 3:30 p.m. troopers and emergency personnel responded to the wreck about 13 miles east Glide.
Fox said the preliminary investigation revealed that a motorcycle operated by 28-year old Joseph Gazarek was westbound on the highway at a high rate of speed. A sedan, driven by 21-year old Schyler Hamilton, also of Roseburg, was eastbound and was in the process of turning into the parking area for Susan Creek Falls. The motorcycle impacted the right front of the sedan, and Gazarek was ejected from the motorcycle.
Gazarek was pronounced deceased at the scene by emergency responders. Hamilton, and her passengers, 18-year old Enrique Gonzales of Myrtle Creek, and a juvenile male from Roseburg, were transported to Mercy Medical Center with possible injuries.
Fox said the westbound lanes of the highway were closed for over three hours. Traffic was reduced to one lane while the investigation took place.
Investigators are looking at the speed of the motorcycle as a contributing factor in the crash. Gazarek was wearing a protective helmet at the time of the crash. All three people in the sedan were wearing safety restraints.
OSP was assisted by other agencies at the accident scene.
