A second drive through event at the Douglas County Fairgrounds on Friday resulted in 35 people being tested for COVID-19.
Information from the Douglas County Board of Commissioners and the Douglas Public Health Network said residents that were tested had been identified by their health care provider as a patient the was symptomatic and was in need of testing. The clinic followed the model used after three years of successful flu-vaccine clinics.
Local physicians including Dr. Bob Dannenhoffer and Dr. Brad Seely, collected the specimens and the lab tests were flown to an out of state Quest lab for processing. The results should be known in a few days. Test results will be sent back to the health care provider that ordered the test.
County Commissioner Tim Freeman said “successfully implementing two COVID-19 drive through testing clinics is a big win for our community”. He said the effort has garnered statewide and national attention for the ability to get the clinic up and running in such a short period of time. Freeman said the staff and volunteers from DPHN should be recognized for the success of these clinics, as “they have done an outstanding job”.
The release said officials hope to do these clinics twice weekly for several weeks.
