3 new presumptive positive cases of COVID-19 in Oregon were announced on Sunday.
The state now has 39 people who have been diagnosed with the novel coronavirus. One man, a 70-year old from Multnomah County died on Saturday. He had been hospitalized at the Portland Veteran’s Affairs Medical Center.
The Oregon Health Authority reported 1 new case each in Yamhill, Deschutes and Linn counties. The first 2 cases are believed to be community acquired.
The release said the Linn County case is a staff member of the Oregon Veteran’s Home in Lebanon, which currently has 9 residents who have tested positive. The employee was sent home when symptoms appeared and has remained in isolation ever since, in accordance with established prevention protocols and public health guidelines. The Oregon Department of Veteran’s Affairs is working closely with OHA to coordinate and prioritize testing for residents and staff at the veteran’s home.
Officials continue to urge all Oregonians to take steps to protect themselves, their families, and those who are most vulnerable to complications from COVID-19. Those considered “high risk” include adults age 60 and older, or anyone with a serious health condition or a suppressed immune system. People vulnerable to complications should follow recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to stay home as much as possible and avoid gatherings.
