Phoenix School of Roseburg has been awarded $7,000 in funds from the Three Rivers Foundation to support its Brightworks Academy after-school programs.
Executive Director Thomas McGregor said Phoenix will be welcoming students to stay after-school a few days each month to participate in project teams. He said this month will feature teams learning to prepare for the wilderness or explore “claymation”, among other things. The support from Three Rivers will allow for additional supplies and transportation resources for the program.
Funds were dispersed last week during an event at Three Rivers Casino in Florence. Phoenix Design and Manufacturing teacher CJ Bryant said the amount of funds given to improve local communities was impressive and included a broad spectrum of groups. Bryant said he is excited for the funds to improve 3D printing equipment in the school tech lab. He said the after-school time will allow for larger prints, and time for students to interact more freely with the technology.
McGregor said in addition, Phoenix has been selected to receive support from the Douglas County Partners for Student Success to achieve Brightworks after-school programming in schools across the country.
