Monday night’s Roseburg City Council meeting will focus on potential sanctions against Councilor Ashley Hicks.
At the January 27th meeting, Councilor Brian Prawitz brought forward a concern regarding conduct by Hicks. That came after a group of residents of Shadow Ranch Mobile Park spoke against Hick’s idea, mentioned the month before, that a homeless shelter be put on city owned land off General Avenue, which is nearby. Prawitz said Hicks should quit posting on her Facebook account regarding the idea, claiming her social web media posts, had “stirred up” those that came to the meeting.
On February 11th, Mayor Larry Rich sent a registered letter to Hicks, informing her that an Executive Session, to “hear evidence pertaining to and consider censure” for claims being made against her would be held, due to the controversy. Rich said Hicks could choose to have the hearing in an open public session.
In reply, Hicks sent an email to Rich, City Manager Nikki Messenger, and City Recorder Amy Sowa, saying she agreed to a public session, “so everyone can be held accountable to the public”.
Only a few other items are on the agenda. The meeting will begin at 7:00 p.m. in the council chambers.
