GENEVA ACADEMY STUDENTS TO PACK 10,000 MEALS FOR STUDENTS IN NEED

February 20, 2020 3:40 a.m.
Students from Geneva Academy plan to pack 10,000 meals for hungry children, both locally and abroad, on February 28th.
Organizers said the event is called Feed the Need and will take place at the school’s campus on Northeast Vine Street.
A release from the Academy said their school board intentionally chose to organize a serve-a-thon style fundraising event, with a “give back” of 10,000 meals because they want students to understand the impact of serving others.
Rather than students being asked to sell candy or other items as a fundraiser, the students have been asking for personal sponsors to support the service project. Most of the meals will go to children and their families at orphanages and schools in hurricane-ravaged Haiti. 1,500 of the meals will be divided among five local organizations that serve families in Douglas County. That includes the Salvation Army, FISH Food Pantry, Casa de Belen, Safe Haven Maternity Home and the Roseburg Dream Center.
Packing will begin at 8:30 a.m. and is anticipated to end by 12:30 p.m.
